Voter Registration
The New Mexico MVD offers several services above and beyond standard Driver and Vehicle transactions. MVD can assist you with Voter Registration in three ways:
- If you are 18 years of age or older, a United States citizen and not currently registered to vote then:
When applying for or renewing your driver license or ID card, the MVD Agent will ask if you would also like to register to vote. If you say yes, the clerk will populate a voter registration form with your information. You will be required to complete the remaining items on the form, sign and date. MVD will forward the voter registration form to the County Clerk on your behalf.
- If you are 18 years of age or older, a United States citizen and currently registered to vote, then:
When applying for or renewing your driver license or ID card, and you are changing your address, the MVD Agent will ask if you would like MVD to notify the Secretary of State that your address has changed. If you choose yes, then MVD will send your change of address form to the Secretary of State on your behalf.
- If you are 18 years of age or older, a United States citizen and want only to change your address, then:
You must complete a MVD change of address form | Fill Print and Go!. On the form, there is a place to indicate that you would like MVD to notify the Secretary of State of your change of address for voter registration purposes. MVD will make the address change for MVD purposes and then forward the form to the Secretary of State on your behalf for processing.
If you are in the MVD for business other than applying for or renewing your driver license or ID card, you can contact your local county clerk or the New Mexico Secretary of State’s office to register to vote.
