Chapter 5, Section I:
CDL Skills Test "Grandfathering"

Revised March 7, 2008

“Grandfathering” was the practice of waiving a required skills test for a commercial license because the applicant has been legally driving the same class for the past 24 months.

Grandfathering no longer takes place.

Military personnel who no longer drive for the military need to test as first time CDL drivers if they wish to have a New Mexico CDL license.
